"Diamonds" is a mid-tempo pop ballad with influences of electronic and soul music.
Critical reception for "Diamonds" was generally mixed; some reviewers complimented Rihanna's different musical direction, while others criticized its production. "Diamonds" peaked at number one in France and the United Kingdom, and reached top-ten positions in nineteen other countries, including Australia, Canada, and Germany.
